Joseph was absolutely fantastic and delivered an outstanding Roman experience for our class . From the moment he arrived, the children were completely engaged and excited to learn. His interactive approach which included drama activities, games, and opportunities for children to participate, made sure that every child was involved and enthusiastic throughout the session.

What impressed us most was Joseph's ability to adapt when plans changed. When the hall became unavailable, he adjusted his activities to suit the different spaces we were moved to, and he made sure there was no disruption to the children's learning or enjoyment. Joseph brought a range of equipment and resources that helped bring the Roman topic to life. The children loved being able to visualise aspects of Roman life and history, making their learning memorable and meaningful.

We used Joseph's Roman Day as the hook for our topic, and the impact has been incredible. The knowledge and enthusiasm gained from the experience continue to be evident in our lessons, and the children regularly refer back to what they learned on the day.

Parents have commented on how much their children talked about the day at home. It was a truly engaging, educational, and inspiring experience, and we would highly recommend Joseph to any school looking to bring history to life.  - Miss Mbatia

Joseph was amazing, the children had a wonderful learning experience and were engaged the entire day (as was I). - Mrs Palor

We were so impressed with our full-day Roman workshop from Ancient Visitor for all of our Year 3 children. From the moment the session began, Joseph had the children completely engaged. The workshop was lively, well organised and full of hands-on experiences that brought our new History unit to life.

The children loved handling the artefacts, trying on Roman armour, learning Latin phrases and taking part in the battle formations. The way Joseph delivered the day kept every child involved from start to finish and the activities helped them build a deeper understanding of Roman life in a memorable way.

Joseph was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and excellent with the children. He pitched everything at the right level for Year 3 and created an atmosphere where the children were excited to learn throughout the day.

We would highly recommend Joseph and Ancient Visitor to any school looking for an inspiring and memorable workshop. It was a fantastic experience for both the children and staff.  - Mr Bayliss

Class 3 had the most wonderful day with our Roman visitor. Joseph was very knowledgeable and engaging, including all the children in activities, role play and stories. The children particularly enjoyed speaking Latin to each other and building our own Roman towns, before weapons and drills in the afternoon. The activities covered a wide range of topics and was tailored through the day to suit our prior knowledge. Joseph had a wide range of interesting and unusual artefacts to look at and handle, really encouraging the children to think and use their prediction skills. Roman Day was a great success - thank you Joseph. - Mrs Waugh

On Wednesday, Year 4 had the pleasure of taking part in an exciting day where we learnt all about the Romans. Joseph - from Ancient Visitor - came in to teach the children all about the Romans through a variety of fun-filled, engaging and immersive activities.

We tried on Roman armour and explored a range of Roman artefacts to understand how soldiers and citizens lived. These artefacts included Roman coins - we had a great discussion about how the coins differ from the ones we use today, a toilet brush, a very odd sponge and a wax block which they used to write on.

We also designed our own Roman village, thinking carefully about buildings and layout and even learnt to speak some Latin words and phrases. The children played traditional Roman games such as knuckles and took part in their own Roman battle to experience how the army trained.

We also acted out Roman stories, which helped us remember key events and deepen our understanding in a fun and memorable way. - News and Events; School website

Joseph delivered an outstanding Roman Day workshop for our Year 3 class. He arrived with an impressive collection of authentic-style artefacts that immediately captured the children’s interest and brought the topic to life. Throughout the day, he shared a wealth of knowledge in a way that was engaging, accessible, and perfectly matched to the children’s learning.

One of the highlights was the Roman battle re-enactment, which every child absolutely loved. It was interactive, exciting, and helped them understand Roman life in a memorable, hands-on way. The entire experience was extremely well organised, enjoyable, and educational from start to finish.

This is the second year we have invited Joseph to run this workshop, and once again it exceeded all expectations. We truly can’t wait to welcome him back again next year.

Our visit from Joseph the Ancient Visitor was absolutely brilliant!

Joseph is incredibly engaging and brings history to life in such a hands-on and captivating way. The children were fascinated from the very first minute and are still talking about the experience days later. His rapport with the pupils was fantastic, and they learned so much throughout the day.

It was a truly worthwhile addition to our Roman topic — the children’s understanding of who the Romans were and what their lives were like has deepened enormously. The quality of their work and discussions since the visit has improved dramatically, thanks to the knowledge and inspiration Joseph provided. Mrs Hallas
